Incorporating this practice into your daily self-care routine only needs to take 3-5 minutes of your day.
Here’s how to get started:
BEFORE GETTING STARTED
Find a time that works best for you to incorporate this practice into your daily routine. Being consistent with this practice helps provide the best results. We highly recommend engaging in this practice after showering and even done best after a cold shower to activate the lymphatic system.
Spend a few moments activating your lymph by performing a few small jumps to enhance the circulation of lymphatic fluid throughout your body. Follow by gently tapping on the key lymph nodes located around the body: above the collarbones, the armpits, bikini line and behind the knees. This step activates and open up your lymph nodes for them to be able to receive and dispose of the fluid you’ll be moving. Practice deep belly breathing as you massage and do 5-10 strokes on each area.
THE TECHNIQUE
Apply a generous amount of oil so that the Gua Sha can glide easily across your skin. Apply more if needed while using the Gua Sha. Gently stroke using moderate pressure in the direction of the heart on your body. Repeat the movement 5-10 times on each area.
Begin your ritual by starting at your arms and gradually moving in long, light, purposeful motions always moving towards your heart, aligning with the natural flow of the lymphatic system.
ARMS: Hold your Body Gua Sha at a 45 degree angle, glide the tool from the crease of your elbow up to your armpit, working toward your axillary lymph nodes. Move to your lower arm and glide the tool from your wrist to your elbow, then all the way from wrist to armpit.
CHEST: Fluid from your breasts drains to the lymph nodes in your armpits. Using gentle pressure, glide your tool from the center of your chest to your armpit, then underneath the chest towards the armpit.
WAIST: Hold your tool in a vertical position and glide it from the side of your waist up to your armpit, then from behind your torso to the front of your body. Glide your tool over your abdominal area in gentle circular motions, working clockwise to help promote digestion and decrease the look of bloating.
LEGS: Start above your knee and gently stroke upward toward your bikini line area (your inguinal lymph nodes) using the tool. Massage the back of your thighs gently stroking upward until you reach the gluteal fold. Move to your calfs, starting at your ankles in an upward motion towards the back of your knees.
FINISHING: Drink plenty of water after using your Gua Sha to help your body get rid of the toxins and continue a few rounds of deep belly breathing.
